Expressing Our Solidarity with the Human Rights Defenders
St. Aloysius PU College, Harihar demonstrated a protest following the arrest of Fr. Stan Swamy SJ. He was arrested on 8th October, 2020 at his residence in Ranchi. The 80 year old Jesuit Priest is alleged to have nexus with the Bhima Koregao Case and also to have links with Maoists.
As a mark of support to the Priest, the institution staged protest in front of the Office of DC in Davangere and voiced its dissent with the Government's move to silence all those who question its governence.
The protest was led by Adv. Anil Pasha,
the President of People's Lawyers Guild; Secretary of Ummath Chintakara Vedike, Mr Guddappa, the President of Madiga Dhandora and Mr. L H Arunkumar, the
President of Human Rights Association in Davangere. The management and staff along with the activists stood in solidarity with Fr Stany and other 15 members who also are jailed in this regard.
The participants spoke on how the government is moving towards Fascism by having its own way in every matter concerning the citizens of the country and raised slogans in support of Fr. Stany.
The memorandum which was drafted as an appeal to release Fr Stan Swamy was then read and handed over to the District Collector. The gathering dispersed in a peaceful way hoping an action to be taken in this regard.
